VW Aircooled Rally Series Comes to the Arctic

A large group of VW Aircooled Rally Series drivers have decided to come to join the icy adventure at the Arctic Circle at the turn of January-February, when the Arctic Lapland Rally celebrates its 60th anniversary.

According to Heikki Poranen, chairman of the organizing committee, the drivers’ decision is a great tribute to the rally, as the first “Tunturi” was won in 1966 with a VW 1600 TL car. The driver at that time was, of course, the great man of the rally world, Kari O. Sohlberg.

According to Poranen, drivers from many other Historic classes have also asked for details about the upcoming arctic adventure, so on Friday, January 31, 2025, a long line of impressive classic rally cars will likely cross the starting platform at Lordinaukio in Rovaniemi.
